PEPPER

start to pepper

chapter 1

it was late July me and my human family were taking our yearly camping trip. yep one week of digging and chasing. let me introduce my self. my name is pepper and i'm a black lab.
"pepper, come on girl" Steve calls. Steve's been my buddy since he found me in that horrible pound. then again i shouldn't complain. those people took me in off the streets. before that i can't remember. that was three years ago. I turn and run towards them. Steve's "lil sis" Jeana has twins who just turned five. those kids are so much fun and enjoy making me crazy.
"Pepper! come on" I run and jump onto the boat.  Jeana  was putting life jackets on the twins.
"Jeana, were not going to sink" Steve explained.
"we don't have to sink for the kids to end up in the water." she countered.  Steve turned to me
"Ready girl" Steve asked me.  I barked a reply and we were off.

I knew just where we were headed. our secret picnic and fishing spot. As  Steve guided us to shore I jumped over board. splashing and barking i swam to shore. just to make the twins laugh. I am a awesome swimmer. Jeana says she doesn't know why i don't swim the whole way. now  I don't think I could do that but on a nice day maybe half way.  I ran up the beach and  back. I could not wait for them to come ashore. Steve was tying the boat to a large tree when I got back. Jeana was setting out blankets for the food to be on. Steve was getting out the fishing  supplies.
"good girl" Steve said as he patted my head.

after what seemed like forever we finally  got tired and hungry.
"looks like the fish got smart" Steve laughed. so we got out the sides that Jeana brought.  soon we were full.
"lets go for a walk" the twins exclaimed. I ran ahead through jungles of trees. the thick leaves gave a feeling of  mystery and adventure. the twins pretended they were looking for lost treasure. I guess that's little boys for you.

running ahead i found a hollow tree. I slithered inside. when the twins walked by they were looking for me. they screamed as i jumped out. soon they were laughing. by this point we had been walking for more than an hour. then it began to rain.  we were under such dense trees that we thought it was only a sprinkle. but we turned back anyway.

chapter 2.

as we came out of the trees it became apparent that a huge storm was rapidly advancing.  Steve hurried us onto the boat and sped off towrds the camp sight.  the rain poored down. all  at once  i relizzed that we might not make it to shore. i saw the camp grounds  through the rain. there was a boat people were calling for us. they were too late. a huge wave forsed the boat to tip. i jumped over board just in time. the water was rough and i didnt know witch way to swim. i went towrds the closest land. in that moment i was sure this was the way. by the time i got to land i was so exausted that i colapst on the the sandy beach.  falling asleep i knew Steve would be ariving soon to let me inside.

I woke up to the sun, shining brightly through the blue sky. my first thought was why Steve hadn’t let me in yet. Draging my sore body up I walked to shore. Quickly I realized my problem. I was on the wrong side of the lake. worse Steve’s car was loaded and was driving away.

Barking, I rushed into the water. But by the time I got to shore they were gone. A bad thought came to mind. the twins were not in life jackets. were they ok?  An assesment of footprints and smells told me that Steve cooked for four this morning.

by the temperature and sun position it wasn’t quite noon.  it didn’t matter... I was starving.  Goning over to the grill i began to lick off the dried meat and fat. The bushes rustled to my left and a bobcat rushed out at me. I jumped back, sudenly feeling faint

chapter 3
Waking up I slowly relized where I was. In the bobcats den surrounded by four kittens.

“look mommy he’s waking up” said one of the kittens.

I try to get up and out of there. I was sure they would eat me. However when I tried to move extream pain rockeded through my gut and I through up.  I layed still. what else was there to do.

“hush....” the mother cat cooed “your not from around here, are you?”

I opened my  mouth to talk and nearly threw up again.

“get some more sleep” she said “we can talk later”

Sence taking her advice semed the only option I closed my eyes and went to sleep.

chapter 4
the next time i woke up there was a pool of water in frount of me. it took a secont for me to rellize that someone had filled a hole in the ground with water and that i was extreamly thirsty. but when i saw the bob cat i hesatated. was this what made me sick? was she poisining me?

i think she must be phicic because she said

“the water will help. drink. you need to flush your system.” i diped my toung into the water. drinking slowly because my tummy still hurt. once the water was gone i tryed to talk but it came out as a wisper

“wh- wha- what happend?” i asked

“they put poison into the grill after cooking  to keep animals out of the camp sight.”

i never saw steave do that... i thought... then i began to cry. with each sob sharp pain whrnt through my gut. i almost hoped they would eat me. with out steave im nothing...

“does he need more water, mommy?” one of the kids asked

“no. he’s greaving honey.” mother cat responded

“like when daddy got caught by the bad men?”  asked another kitten

“yes, yes,...” mother cat caught her breath, trying not to cry.

the kittens cuddled up to me and i fell asleep.

chapter 5

when i woke up the sun shown bright. the cat family was just out side the den. i slowly and carfuly got up and walked over to them.

“look whos up...” the mother cat smiled. let me introduce my self. my name is Sandra. and these are my kittens
